1% Kindness
Privacy Policy
Effective May 2, 2026.
1% Kindness has two surfaces: the iOS app and the pilot signup form on this site. Their data practices are different, so they are described separately below.
Part 1 — The iOS app
Summary
The 1% Kindness iOS app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data off of your device. There are no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no third-party services, no AI services, no advertising. Everything you enter into the app stays on your iPhone or iPad.
What the app stores on your device
When you add a check-in, the app stores the following on your device only:
- The name and phone number you enter.
- The time of day and days of the week you'd like to be reminded.
- Any notes you choose to write.
- The date of your most recent call (if you tap "Call now").
This data lives in the app's sandbox on your device. We do not have access to it.
What the app does NOT do
- It does not transmit any data to us, our team, or any third party.
- It does not use AI, automated voice services, or speech synthesis.
- It does not contact, call, or message anyone — you make the calls yourself by tapping "Call now," which uses your phone's built-in dialer.
- It does not require an account, email, password, or sign-in.
- It does not contain advertising, analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or trackers.
- It does not access your contacts list, microphone, location, or camera.
Notifications
If you grant notification permission, the app schedules local reminders directly on your device. Apple's system handles delivery on-device; nothing about your reminders or contacts is transmitted to us.
Deletion
- To delete a single check-in, swipe it in the list or use the Delete button on its detail page. This removes it permanently from your device.
- To delete everything, delete the app. iOS removes all data with it. There is no other location your data exists.
There is no account to delete because no account is created.
Part 2 — The pilot signup form
This part covers only the pilot signup form on this site (/join) and the voice and text messages sent as part of the small-group pilot. It does not cover the iOS app, which collects no data — see Part 1.
What we collect when you submit the form
If you submit the pilot signup form, we receive whichever of the following you choose to provide:
- Your role (senior, volunteer, or family member).
- Your name and (optionally) the name people call you.
- Your phone number.
- For seniors: preferred language, preferred time-of-day for a call.
- For volunteers: age, school or workplace, email, preferred time-of-day.
- What you enjoy talking about (optional).
- Any free-form notes you choose to write (optional).
This information is stored on a server we operate and is used for the purposes described below.
How we use it
- To match you. We use what you've told us (interests, language, availability) to suggest a senior-volunteer pairing that's likely to feel comfortable.
- To contact you about the pilot. We may text or call the phone number you provided to confirm a match, schedule a first call, or follow up afterwards.
- To improve the pilot. We review summaries of how calls went so we can do better next time.
We do not sell, rent, share, or trade your information with anyone, ever. We do not use it for advertising. We do not build an advertising or analytics profile of you.
Service providers
To run the pilot, we use the following providers strictly as data processors:
- SignalWire — places phone calls and sends text messages (e.g. match notifications, scheduling).
- ElevenLabs — generates the synthetic voice you hear during a call.
- Anthropic — powers the conversation during a call. Per Anthropic's policy, this content is not used to train models.
- Fly.io — hosts the server that stores signup information and call summaries.
Each of these providers has its own data-handling policies and processes data on our behalf. We pass them the minimum information needed to deliver the service.
Text messages and the words STOP, HELP, START
If we text the number you provided:
- Reply STOP at any time and we will stop sending text messages to that number, no further questions. You will receive a confirmation.
- Reply HELP and you will receive a brief reply with how to reach us.
- Reply START to resume messages after you've previously sent STOP.
Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply. We do not charge anything to message us.
Phone calls and recording
If we place a call to you as part of the pilot:
- The call uses a clearly synthetic voice and will not pretend to be a real person.
- The call is recorded only after you say yes out loud. If you decline, we still have the conversation — we just don't record it.
- You can say "I want to stop" at any point and the call ends immediately.
Retention and deletion
We keep signup information and call records only as long as we need them to run the pilot. To request deletion of your information, email hello@1percentkind.app with the phone number you signed up with. We will delete your records and confirm by email. You can also reply STOP to any text we send to opt out of further outreach.
Children
The pilot is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change how we handle data on either surface, this page will be updated and dated.
